     Charles Marsham, 1st Earl of Romney was born on 28 September 1744.1 He was the son of Robert Marsham, 2nd Baron of Romney and Priscilla Pym.2 He married Lady Frances Wyndham, daughter of Charles Wyndham, 2nd Earl of Egremont and Hon. Alicia Maria Carpenter, on 30 August 1776.2 He died on 1 March 1811 at age 66.1
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) between 1768 and 1774.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Kent between 1774 and 1790.1 He was president of the Marine Society in 1793.1 He was member of the Board of Agriculture in 1793.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron of Romney, co. Kent [G.B., 1716] on 16 November 1793.1 He succeeded as the 5th Baronet Marsham, of Whorn's Place, Cuxton, Kent [E., 1663] on 16 November 1793.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Kent between 1797 and 1808.1 He was created 1st Viscount Marsham [U.K.] on 22 June 1801.1 He was created 1st Earl of Romney, of the Mote [U.K.] on 22 June 1801.1

     Lady Frances Wyndham was born on 9 July 1755 at Petworth, Sussex, England.3,4 She was the daughter of Charles Wyndham, 2nd Earl of Egremont and Hon. Alicia Maria Carpenter.3 She was baptised on 5 August 1755 at Petworth, Sussex, England.5 She married Charles Marsham, 1st Earl of Romney, son of Robert Marsham, 2nd Baron of Romney and Priscilla Pym, on 30 August 1776.3 She died on 15 January 1795 at age 39 at Arlington Street, London, England.3,4
     Her married name became Marsham. After her marriage, Lady Frances Wyndham was styled as Baroness of Romney on 16 November 1793.

     Charles Marsham, 2nd Earl of Romney was born on 22 November 1777.1 He was the son of Charles Marsham, 1st Earl of Romney and Lady Frances Wyndham.1 He married, firstly, Sophia Pitt, daughter of William Morton Pitt and Margaret Gambier, on 9 September 1806 at Stinsford, Dorset, England.1,2 He married, secondly, Hon. Mary Elizabeth Townshend, daughter of John Thomas Townshend, 2nd Viscount Sydney of St. Leonards and Lady Caroline Elizabeth Letitia Clements, on 8 February 1832.3 He died on 29 March 1845 at age 67 at The Mote, Kent, England.1,2

Mary Elizabeth Townshend was the daughter of John Thomas Townshend, 2nd Viscount Sydney of St. Leonards and Lady Caroline Elizabeth Letitia Clements.1,2 She married, firstly, George James Cholmondeley, son of Rev. Hon. Robert Cholmondeley and Mary Woffington, on 4 October 1825.1 She married, secondly, Charles Marsham, 2nd Earl of Romney, son of Charles Marsham, 1st Earl of Romney and Lady Frances Wyndham, on 8 February 1832.1 She died on 25 December 1847.2
     From 4 October 1825, her married name became Cholmondeley. From 8 February 1832, her married name became Marsham. After her marriage, Hon. Mary Elizabeth Townshend was styled as Countess of Romney on 8 February 1832.
