William James Peake Mason, 1st Baron Blackford was born on 11 November 1862.1 He was the son of George Holt Mason and Laura Mary Moakes.1 He married Edith Affleck, daughter of Alexander Murray Affleck, on 30 July 1885.1 He died on 21 July 1947 at age 84.2
He was admitted to Middle Temple in 1891 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.1 He was created 1st Baronet Mason [U.K.] on 3 July 1918.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Somerset in 1928.1 He was created 1st Baron Blackford, of Compton Pauncefoot, co. Somerset [U.K.] on 26 June 1935.1
