     Major Nigel William Frances Baynes was born on 21 March 1878.1 He was the son of Walter Francis Baynes and Amelia Sarah Malton.1 He married, firstly, Phoebe Morris, daughter of John Grant Morris, on 26 October 1904.1 He married, secondly, Gladys Marie Shortridge, daughter of T. W. Shortridge, on 25 January 1912.1 He died on 19 March 1915 at age 36.1
     He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Gloucestershire Regiment.1
