     James Hamilton, 2nd of Stevenston was born on 10 June 1745.2 He was the son of James Hamilton, 1st of Stevenston and Helen Baillie.1,2 He married Mary Nisbet, daughter of Archibald Nisbet of Carfin.2 He died on 30 March 1812 at age 66.2
     He lived at Stevenston, ScotlandG.1

     Sir Robert Montgomery Hamilton of Wishaw, 8th Lord Belhaven and Stenton was born in 1793.1 He was the son of William Hamilton of Wishaw, 7th Lord Belhaven and Stenton and Penelope Macdonald.1 He married Hamilton Campbell, daughter of Walter Campbell, 9th of Skipness and 3rd of Shawfield and Mary Nisbet, on 16 December 1815 at Cambusnethan, ScotlandG.1 He died on 22 December 1868, without issue.1 He was buried at Cambusnethan, ScotlandG.1
     He succeeded as the 8th Lord Belhaven and Stenton, co. Haddington [S., 1647] on 20 October 1814.1 He held the office of Representative Peer (Whig) [Scotland] between 1819 and 1832.1 He held the office of High Commissioner to the General Assembly and Kirk [Scotland] between 1831 and 1841.1 He was created 1st Baron Hamilton of Wishaw, co. Lanark [U.K.] on 10 September 1831.1 He held the office of High Commissioner to the General Assembly and Kirk [Scotland] between 1847 and 1851.1 He held the office of High Commissioner to the General Assembly and Kirk [Scotland] between 1853 and 1857.1 He held the office of High Commissioner to the General Assembly and Kirk [Scotland] between 1860 and 1866.1 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Thistle (K.T.) on 1 July 1861.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Lanarkshire between 1863 and 1868.1
     On his death, the Barony of Hamilton of Wishart became extinct, and the Lordship of Belhaven and Stenton became dormant.1
