John Aylmer1

     John Aylmer was born in 1783.2 He was the son of Michael Aylmer and Frances Amelia Hornidge.2 He married, firstly, Martha Hornidge, daughter of Major Richard Hornidge, on 21 August 1813, they were cousins.2 He married, secondly, Margaret Susan Aylmer, daughter of Sir Fenton Aylmer, 7th Bt. and Jane Grace Evans-Freke, on 29 December 1828.2 He died on 5 March 1857.1
     He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG, in 1803 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2 He held the office of High Sheriff in 1819.2 He lived at Courtown, Kilcock, County Kildare, IrelandG.2

     George Darling Aylmer was born between 1858 and 1862.1 He was the son of Captain Fenton John Aylmer and Isabella Eleanor Darling.1 He died, young.1

Lt.-Gen. Sir Fenton John Aylmer, 13th Bt., V.C.1

     Lt.-Gen. Sir Fenton John Aylmer, 13th Bt., V.C. was born on 5 April 1862 at Hastings, Sussex, EnglandG.1,2 He was the son of Captain Fenton John Aylmer and Isabella Eleanor Darling.1 He married Elsie Julie Oppermann, daughter of Friedrich Oppermann, in 1913.1 He died on 3 September 1935 at age 73 at Wimbledon, London, EnglandG, without issue.1,2 He was buried at Golders Green Cemetery, London, EnglandG.2
     He fought in the Third Burma War between 1886 and 1887, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He fought in the Hazara Expedition in 1891, where he was again mentioned in despatches.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Engineers.3 He fought in the Hunza-Nagar Campaign between 1891 and 1892, being again mentioned in despatches, and was wounded.1 He fought in the Isazai Expedition in 1892.1 He gained the rank of Brevet Major in 1892.1 He was awarded the Victoria Cross (V.C.) on 12 July 1892, for his actions on 2 December 1891. "During the assault on Nilt fort, whilst forcing the Inner Gate open with gun cotton, he was shot in the leg and wounded in the hand by a rock dropped from above. Nevertheless, he dashed through and engaged the enemy hand-to-hand, killing several, until he collapsed from loss of blood."1,3 He fought in the Chitral Campaign in 1895, where he was once again mentioned in despatches.1 He gained the rank of Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel in 1895.1 He held the office of Attorney-General [India] between 1912 and 1915.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in the Royal Engineers.1 He was Corps Commander of the forces in Mesopotamia between 1915 and 1916.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.)1 He was Colonel-Commandant of the Royal Engineers in 1922.1 He succeeded as the 13th Baronet Aylmer, of Donadea, co. Kildare [I., 1622] on 5 December 1928.1

Sir Fenton John Aylmer, 13th Bt., V.C., son of Captain Fenton John Aylmer and Isabella Eleanor Darling, in 1913.1 She died on 18 July 1934.1
     From before 1913, her married name became Risley.1 From 1913, her married name became Aylmer.1
