Gerhard I Graf von Holstein-Itzehoe was born in 1232. He was the son of Adolf IV von Schauenberg Graf von Holstein and Hedwig von der Lippe. He married, firstly, Elisabeth von Mecklenburg, daughter of Johann Ivan Herzog von Mecklenburg, after 1249. He married, secondly, Alessia di Monferrato, daughter of Boniface II 'il Gigante' Marchese del Monferrato and Margherita di Savoia, circa 1280.1 He died in 1290.
He gained the title of Graf von Holstein-Itzehoe.
