     Captain William George Hope Johnstone was born in 1830.1 He was the son of Captain George James Hope Johnstone and Maria Ranking.1 He married Emily Stead, daughter of William Stead, on 21 April 1858.1 He died in 1870.1
     He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.

Emily Stead1

     Emily Stead was the daughter of William Stead.1 She married, firstly, Captain William George Hope Johnstone, son of Captain George James Hope Johnstone and Maria Ranking, on 21 April 1858.1 She married, secondly, John Mason Stead in 1882.1 She died on 7 September 1907.1
     From 21 April 1858, her married name became Hope Johnstone.1

     James Balfour was born in 1775.1 He was the son of John Balfour, 5th of Balbirnie and Ellen Gordon.2,3 He married Lady Eleanor Maitland, daughter of James Maitland, 8th Earl of Lauderdale and Eleanor Todd, on 19 January 1815 at Haddington, East Lothian, ScotlandG.4,1 He died on 18 April 1845.3,1
     He lived at Whittinghame, East Lothian, Scotland.

     Her married name became Cobham.

John Cobham, 3rd Lord Cobham (of Kent)1

     John Cobham, 3rd Lord Cobham (of Kent) was the son of John de Cobham, 2nd Lord Cobham (of Kent) and Joan Beauchamp.1,2 He married Lady Margaret de Courtenay, daughter of Hugh de Courtenay, 2nd Earl of Devon and Margaret de Bohun, in 1332/33.1 He died on 10 January 1407/8, without male issue.1 He was buried at Grey Friars, London, EnglandG.2
     He succeeded as the 3rd Lord Cobham, Kent [E., 1313] on 20 September 1355.1 Between 1359 and 1376 he served in various French expeditions.2 He was appointed Knight Banneret in 1370.2 He was one of the 14 Commissioners who formed the Council of Regency in 1386.2 He was one of the Lords Appellant who impeached the King's favourites, de la Pole, de Veer and others in 1388.2 He was a Lord Appellant to impeach King Richard II's favourites in 1388.1 He was a member of the Court of Chivalry in 1389.2 He was a member of the Court of Chivalry in 1392.2 In 1397/98 he was impeached and condemned to death for his part in the Commission of 1388, but was pardoned and banished to Jersey.1 Circa 1400 he returned to England.2

     Joan de la Pole, Baroness Cobham (of Kent) was the daughter of Sir John de la Pole and Joan Cobham.1 She married, firstly, Sir Robert Hemenhale before November 1380.2 She married, secondly, Sir Reginald Braybroke before 1394.2 She married, thirdly, Sir Nicholas Hawberk circa 1406.2 She married, fourthly, Sir John Oldcastell, 1st and last Lord Oldcastell before 18 July 1408.1 She married, fifthly, Sir John Harpeden after 1417.2 She died on 13 January 1433/34, without surviving male issue.3,2 She was buried at Cobham Church, Cobham, Kent, EnglandG.2
     From before November 1380, her married name became Hemenhale. From before 1394, her married name became Braybroke. From circa 1406, her married name became Hawberk. She succeeded as the 4th Baroness Cobham, Kent [E., 1313] on 10 January 1407/8.1 From before 18 July 1408, her married name became Oldcastell. From after 1417, her married name became Harpeden.2
