     William Reginald Courtenay, 11th Earl of Devon was born on 19 April 1807.¹ He was the son of William Courtenay, 10th Earl of Devon and Henrietta Leslie Pepys.¹ He was baptised on 3 July 1807. He married Lady Elizabeth Fortescue, daughter of Hugh Fortescue, 1st Earl Fortescue and Hester Grenville, on 27 December 1830.¹ He died on 18 November 1888 at age 81.¹ He was buried on 24 November 1888.
     He was educated at Westminster School, Westminster, London, England^G.¹ He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, in 1828 with a Bachelor of Law (B.A.)¹ He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, in 1831 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)¹ He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Law (D.C.L.) by Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, in 1838.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for South Devon between 1841 and 1849.¹ He succeeded as the 11th Earl of Devon [E., 1553] on 19 March 1859.¹ He succeeded as the 7th Baronet Courtenay [E., 1645] on 19 March 1859.¹ He held the office of Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster between July 1866 and May 1867.¹ He gained the rank of Honorary Colonel in the Royal 1st Devon Yeomanry Cavalry.¹ He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.²
     

     Lady Elizabeth Fortescue was born on 10 July 1801. She was the daughter of Hugh Fortescue, 1st Earl Fortescue and Hester Grenville.¹ She married William Reginald Courtenay, 11th Earl of Devon, son of William Courtenay, 10th Earl of Devon and Henrietta Leslie Pepys, on 27 December 1830.¹ She died on 27 January 1867 at age 65 at Powderham Castle, Devon, England^G. She was buried on 2 February 1867.
     Her married name became Courtenay. After her marriage, Lady Elizabeth Fortescue was styled as Countess of Devon on 19 March 1859.

     Lady Agnes Elizabeth Courtenay was the daughter of William Reginald Courtenay, 11th Earl of Devon and Lady Elizabeth Fortescue.¹ She married Charles Lindley Wood, 2nd Viscount Halifax of Monk Bretton, son of Charles Wood, 1st Viscount Halifx of Monk Bretton and Lady Mary Grey, on 22 April 1869.² She died on 4 July 1919.²
     Her married name became Wood. After her marriage, Lady Agnes Elizabeth Courtenay was styled as Viscountess Halifax of Monk Bretton on 8 August 1885.

     Joan de Willoughby was the daughter of Robert de Willoughby, 1st Lord Willoughby de Eresby and Margaret Deincourt.¹ She married Gilbert de Umfreville, 10th Earl of Angus, son of Robert de Umfreville, 9th Earl of Angus and Lucy de Kyme.¹ She died on 16 July 1350.¹

     Robert de Willoughby, 1st Lord Willoughby de Eresby was born between 1250 and 1260.² He was the son of Sir William Willoughby and Alice Beke.³ He married Margaret Deincourt, daughter of Sir Edmund Deincourt, 1st Lord Deincourt, before 1303.^1,2 He died before 25 March 1317.²
     He fought in the Siege of Carlavrock in 1300.² He was created 1st Lord Willoughby de Eresby [England by writ] on 26 July 1313.³ He lived at Eresby, Lincolnshire, England^G.³

     Sir Philip Courtenay was born circa 1345.² He was the son of Hugh de Courtenay, 2nd Earl of Devon and Margaret de Bohun.³ He married Anne Wake, daughter of Sir Thomas Wake and Alice de Pateshull.³ He died in 1406.³
     He was appointed Knight in 1367.³ He held the office of Lieutenant of Ireland between 1383 and 1393.³ He lived at Powderham Castle, Powderham, Devon, England^G.³

     Rt. Rev. Henry Reginald Courtenay was born in 1741.¹ He was the son of Henry Reginald Courtenay and Lady Catherine Bathurst.¹ He married Lady Elizabeth Howard, daughter of Thomas Howard, 2nd Earl of Effingham and Elizabeth Beckford, on 26 January 1774.¹ He died on 9 June 1803.¹
     He held the office of Bishop of Exeter between 1797 and 1803.¹ He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.²
     

     Lady Elizabeth Howard was the daughter of Thomas Howard, 2nd Earl of Effingham and Elizabeth Beckford.¹ She married Rt. Rev. Henry Reginald Courtenay, son of Henry Reginald Courtenay and Lady Catherine Bathurst, on 26 January 1774.¹ She died on 31 October 1815.¹
     Her married name became Courtenay.

     Charles Christopher Pepys, 1st Earl of Cottenham was born on 29 April 1781 at Wimpole Street, London, England^G.¹ He was the son of Sir William Weller Pepys, 1st Bt. and Elizabeth Dowdeswell.³ He was baptised at St. Marylebone Church, Marylebone Road, Marylebone, London, England^G.¹ He married Caroline Elizabeth Wingfield, daughter of William Wingfield-Baker and Lady Charlotte Maria Digby, on 30 June 1821 at St. George's Church, Bloomsbury, London, England^G.³ He died on 29 April 1851 at age 70 at Pietra Santa, Lucca, Italy^G.³ He was buried at Totteridge, Hertfordshire, England^G.³ His will was proven (by probate) in June 1851.³

     Lady Caroline Pepys was the daughter of Charles Christopher Pepys, 1st Earl of Cottenham and Caroline Elizabeth Wingfield.¹ She married Lister Lister-Kaye, son of Sir John Lister Lister-Kaye, 2nd Bt. and Matilda Arbuthnot, on 25 May 1852.² She died on 21 January 1902.²
     Her married name became Lister-Kaye.
