Hertford [U.K., 1838] on 18 January 1873.1 He held the office of Viceroy of India between 1876 and 1880.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1878.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Commander, Order of the Star of India (G.C.S.I.) in 1880.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.) in 1880.1 He was created 1st Viscount Knebworth of Knebworth, co.
