Sir James William Ritchie, 1st Bt. was born on 7 August 1868.1 He was the son of Sir James Thomson Ritchie, 1st and last Bt.1 He married, firstly, Ada Bevan ap Rees Bryant, daughter of Edward Bevan ap Rees Bryant, on 20 July 1898.2 He and Ada Bevan ap Rees Bryant were divorced in 1912.2 He married, secondly, Edna Muriel Emerton, daughter of James Frederick Emerton, on 20 February 1913.1 He died on 8 May 1937 at age 68.1
He held the office of Lieutenant for the City of London.1 He was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.)2 He was created 1st Baronet Ritchie, of Lees House, co. Kent [U.K.] on 23 January 1918.1
