John Temple was baptised on 18 April 1732.1 He was the son of Robert Temple.1 He married Elizabeth Bowdoin, daughter of James Bowdoin, on 20 June 1767.1 He died on 17 November 1798 at age 66 at New York, U.S.A.1
He was Surveyor-General of Customs, Northern District of America between 1761 and 1767.1 He was Commissioner of Revenue between 1767 and 1774.1 He held the office of Lieutenant-Governor of New Hampshire between 1768 and 1774.1 He was styled as 8th Baronet Temple in 1786.1 He was British Consul-General to America between 1786 and 1798.1
