     William Bethune was born in 1744.1 He married, firstly, Margaret Bethune, daughter of John Bethune, 5th of Blebo and Janet Scrimgeour, in 1782.1 He married, secondly, Isobel Morison after 1791.1 He died in 1807.1
     He was given the name of William Chalmers at birth.1 Circa 1791 his name was legally changed to William Bethune.1

     Vice-Admiral Gordon Campbell, V.C. was born on 6 January 1886 at Upper Norwwod, London, England.1 He was the son of Colonel Frederick Campbell and Emilie Guillaumine Maclaine.2 He married Mary Jeanne Davids, daughter of Henry Vavasour Sanders Davids, on 14 January 1911.3 He died on 3 October 1953 at age 67 at West Middlesex Hospital, Hounslow, London, England.1
     He was commissioned on 15 September 1900 with the rank of officer, in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1907.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He was awarded the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) on 31 May 1916 and two bars (1917 and 1917.)1 He was awarded the Victoria Cross (V.C.) on 21 April 1917.1 He gained the rank of Captain on 7 June 1917.1 He wrote the book Life of Captain Cook.3 He wrote the book My Mystery Ships, published 1928.1 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral on 5 April 1928.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Burnley between 1931 and 1935.1 He wrote the book Number Thirteen, published 1932.1 He retired from the military on 31 December 1932, with the rank of Vice-Admiral.1 He wrote the book Sailormen All.3 He wrote the book Brave Men All.3
