     Captain Edward Gerard Napier Mansfield was born on 13 July 1921. He was the son of Vice-Admiral Sir John Maurice Mansfield and Alice Talbot Napier.¹ He married Joan Worship Byron, daughter of Commander John Byron, in 1943.² He died on 27 June 2006 at age 84.²
     He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.¹ He lived at White Gate House, Ewshott, Surrey, England.¹ Captain Edward Gerard Napier Mansfield usually went by his middle name of Gerard.³ He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) in 1974.² He was appointed Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) in 1981.²
