He married Marie Luise Bathildis Elfrida Olga Prinzessin zu Waldeck und Pyrmont, daughter of Maximilian William Gustav Herman Prinz zu Waldeck und Pyrmont and Gustava Gräfin zu Hallermund, on 23 May 1951. He died on 9 May 2016 at age 90.
