William Gwynne was born in 1830.1 He was the son of Reverend Stephen Gwynne and Mary Stevenson.2 He married Laura Sothern, daughter of John Sothern, on 21 October 1856 at St. Andrew's Church, Liverpool, Lancashire, England.1,3
He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, in 1854 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was registered as a Licentiate, Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (L.R.C.S.I.) in 1854.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, in 1857 with a Bachelor of Medicine (M.B.)1 He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, in 1861 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He graduated with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.)1 Before February 1869 he was received into the Roman Catholic Church under the influence of the 8th Earl of Denbigh.1 His last will was dated before February 1869. It named the 8th Earl of Denbigh and J.R. Wegg (of Belmont, Herefordshire) trustees and guardians for his son, who was to be carefully educated in the faith and practices of the Catholic Church.1 He lived at Holly Lodge Hill, Hampshire, England.1
