Sir William de Grey, 1st Baron Walsingham was born on 17 July 1719.1 He was the son of Thomas de Grey and Elizabeth Windham.2 He married Mary Cowper, daughter of William Cowper, on 12 November 1743.1 He died on 9 May 1781 at age 61.1
He was educated at Trinity Hall, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.1 He was admitted to Middle Temple in 1742 entitled to practise as a barrister.1 He was appointed King's Counsel (K.C.) in 1758.1 He held the office of Solicitor-General to Queen Charlotte between 1761 and 1763.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Newport, Cornwall between 1761 and 1770.1 He held the office of Solicitor-General between 1763 and 1766.1 He held the office of Attorney-General between 1766 and 1771.1 He held the office of Bencher of Middle Temple in 1768.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Cambridge University between 1770 and 1771.1 He was appointed Knight in 1771.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1771.1 He held the office of Lord Justice of the Court of Common Pleas between 1771 and 1780.1 He was created 1st Baron Walsingham, of Walsingham, Norfolk [Great Britain] on 17 October 1780.1

Mary Cowper was the daughter of William Cowper.2 She married Sir William de Grey, 1st Baron Walsingham, son of Thomas de Grey and Elizabeth Windham, on 12 November 1743.1 She died on 2 September 1800.1
