Sir Andrew Benjamin Cohen was born on 7 October 1909.1 He was the son of Walter Samuel Cohen and Lucy Margaret Cobb.2 He married Helen Phoebe Stevenson, daughter of G. G. Stevenson, on 24 April 1949.1 He died on 17 June 1968 at age 58.1
He was educated at Malvern College, Malvern, Worcestershire, England.1 He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.1 He held the office of Assistant Under-Secretary, Colonial Office between 1947 and 1951.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.)1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1952.1 He held the office of Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Uganda between 1952 and 1957.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Royal Victorian Order (K.C.V.O.) in 1954.1 He held the office of Permanent UK Representative to the U.N. Trusteeship Council between 1957 and 1961.1 He was appointed Knight, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.St.J.) in 1960.1 He was Director-General of the Department of Technical Co-operation between 1961 and 1964.1 He was Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Overseas Development between 1964 and 1968.1
