Richard Trotter, 10th of Mortonhall and 1st of Charterhall was born on 23 March 1797.2 He is the son of Lt.-Gen. Alexander Trotter and Margaret Katherine Fisher.2 He married Mary Oswald, daughter of General Sir John Oswald and Charlotte Murray-Aynsley, on 21 September 1836.2 He died in 1874.2
