Thomas Spens was the son of John de Spens of Lathallan and Isabel Wemyss.2 He died on 14 April 1480.1
He built the hospital at Edinburgh and additions to St. Machar's Cathedral, Aberdeen.1 He held the office of Ambassador to France.1 He held the office of Bishop of Galloway in 1451.1 He held the office of Lord Privy Seal from 1458 to 1459.1 He held the office of Bishop of Aberdeen from 1459 to 1460.1 He held the office of Lord Privy Seal between 1467 and 1470.1
