Martin Lindsay, 14th of Dowhill was born in 1710.1 He was the son of James Lindsay, 13th of Dowhill and Mary Watson.2 He married Jean Smythe, daughter of Dr. James Smythe, in 1749.1 He died in 1790.1
He was a writer (involved in clerical work rather than being a man of letters) with the Record Office at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.1 In 1740 he sold the last of the estate.1 In 1745 he took part in the 45 Uprising.1 He was acquitted of treason.1
