     Jean Hamilton was born illegitimately.¹ She is the daughter of James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Arran.¹ She married John Hamilton, son of Robert Hamilton, 3rd of Fairholm and of Aldtoun and Milburne, before 1563.¹ She married James Boswell of Auchinleck before 1563.¹
     From before 1563, her married name became Hamilton.

     Mariote Hamilton was born illegitimately.¹ He is the son of John Hamilton and Jean Hamilton.²
     On 12 August 1597 she was legitimated.¹

     Robert Hamilton, 6th of Fairholm and of Milburne and Houston was the son of Robert Hamilton, 3rd of Fairholm and of Aldtoun and Milburne.² He married Margaret Hamilton, daughter of John Hamilton, 2nd of Stonehouse.¹ He died in March 1577.¹
     He succeeded his ephewn Henry as 6th of Fairholm.¹

     Allan Hamilton of Fairholm was the son of Robert Hamilton, 3rd of Fairholm and of Aldtoun and Milburne.² He died before 1585, without issue.¹
     He was tutor, after his brother Robert's death, to his nephew Robert, 7th of Fairholm.¹

     Patrick Hamilton of Fairholm is the son of Robert Hamilton, 3rd of Fairholm and of Aldtoun and Milburne.² He married Janet Pollocke.¹
     Patrick succeeded his brother Allan as tutor to their nephew, Robert, 7th of Fairholm.¹ He was a firm adherent of the family of Hamilton, and suffered for his attachment, being, with others of his name, banished and his estates forfeited in the minority of King James VI, returned to Scot with the army of the banished Lords.¹ On 2 November 1585 he obtained restitution from the King.¹

     Janet Pollocke married Patrick Hamilton of Fairholm, son of Robert Hamilton, 3rd of Fairholm and of Aldtoun and Milburne.¹
     Her married name became Hamilton.

     Robert Hamilton, 9th of Fairholm was the son of Patrick Hamilton of Fairholm and Janet Pollocke.² He married, firstly, Marie Jean Rae, daughter of John Rae of Auchingramon and Jean Roberton, on 15 September 1639.¹ He married, secondly, Rebecca Hamilton, daughter of John Hamilton of Carrisland, on 1 July 1651.¹ He died in March 1656.¹
     On 13 April 1650 Fairholm was conveyed to him by his cousin and in 1650/51 he constructed the present mansion house.¹

     Patrick Hamilton is the son of Patrick Hamilton of Fairholm and Janet Pollocke.²
     He was tutor to his nephew John, 10th of Fairholm.¹ On 25 May 1661 he had a precept of clare constat of the lands of Fairholm.¹

     William Hamilton was the son of Patrick Hamilton of Fairholm and Janet Pollocke.² He died on 7 June 1641.¹

     Quintin Hamilton was the son of Patrick Hamilton of Fairholm and Janet Pollocke.² He died before 1656.¹
