Malcolm Bruce Somerset was born in 1893.1 He was the son of Lt.-Cdr. Somerset James Somerset-Johnstone and Isabel Ann Mappin.2
He was given the name of Malcolm Bruce Somerset-Johnstone at birth. He was educated at Sherborne School, Sherborne, Dorset, EnglandG.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was on Staff 2nd Army HQ for defence of Sussex.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Reserve of Cavalry, attached to the Army Remount Service.1 He was CO of the 49th Remount Squadron, Salonika.1 On 12 April 1932 his name was legally changed to Malcolm Bruce Somerset by Deed Poll.

Catharine Octavia Mary Somerset-Johnstone was the daughter of Lt.-Cdr. Somerset James Somerset-Johnstone and Isabel Ann Mappin.2 She married Percy Valentine Norwood, son of C. M. Norwood, on 14 September 1909.1 She died on 30 May 1922.1
