William de Irwyn, 1st of Drum was born circa 1260.1 He died circa 1335.1
He was an armour bearer to ROBERT I , by whom he had a charter February 1323, of much of the Royal Forest of Drum in 1306.1 On 9 October 1324 by a charter (still preserved at Drum) Drum was erected into a Free Barony.1

Sir William Drum was born circa 1317.1 He was the son of William de Irwyn, 1st of Drum.2 He married unknown daughter Montford, daughter of Sir Thomas Montford of Lonmay.1 He died circa 1390.1

Sir Alexander de Irwyne, 3rd of Drum was the son of Sir William Drum and unknown daughter Montford.2 He died on 24 June 1411, killed in action.1
In 1409 he accompanied his cousin, the Earl of Mar, to Flanders and joined the army of the Duke of Burgundy.1 He was appointed Knight in 1410 on the morning of the Battle of Liegravege and returned to Scotland.1 He fought in the Battle of Harlaw on 24 July 1411, as commander of the Lowland Army, in which he encountered Eachin ruadh nan cath (‘red from blood of battle') Maclean 3rd of Dowart, with whom he fought hand-to-hand until both were killed.1
