He was given the name of Robin Ian Evelyn Stuart Grinnell-Milne at birth.1 He was educated at English School, Cairo, Egypt.2 He was educated at Lycée Victor Hugo, Paris, France.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1944 in the Royal Artillery.1 He graduated from Merton College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was Attaché to the British Embassy, Tokyo in 1947.1 He held the office of Rouge Dragon Pursuivant between 1952 and 1962.1 He held the office of Richmond Herald between 1962 and 1967.2 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to King Peter II of Yugoslavia between 1963 and 1970.1 He wrote the book Annuaire de France, published 1966, co-editor.1 On 19 March 1975 his name was legally changed to Robin Ian Evelyn Stuart de la Lanne-Mirrlees.1 He was recognised by Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Court on 19 March 1975.1 He was awarded the Knight of Honour and Devotion, Sovereign Military Order of Malta.1 He lived in 2003 at Bernera Lodge, Stornaway, Great Bernera Island, Scotland.1
