Dudley Charles le Souëf was born in 1824 at Havre de Grace, France.1 He was the son of William le Souëf and Anna Wales.2 He married Louisa Pittman on 11 August 1853 at St. James, Westminster, London, EnglandG.3 He died in February 1887 at Crediton, Devon, England.1
The Colonial Times newspaper of Hobart Town reported on Tuesday 29 March 1842:
THE NATIVE POLICE.—Preparations are going rapidly forward for bringing into action the newly instituted corps of Native Mounted Police. Twenty native troopers are already enlisted and in the course of training, but they are not yet mounted. The command of the corps has been given to Henry Pulteney Dana, Esq; the second officer is Dudley Charles Le Souef, Esq., son of William Le Souef, Esq., Assistant Protector of Aborigines at the Goulburn.
Returned to England in 1847, from Melbourne, believing that prospects were better in England.4,5
