     David Otway Falkiner was born circa 1941. He is the son of Otway McLaurin Falkiner and Agnes Jeanette Cullen.² He married Mary Rose Archer.

     Otway Rothwell Falkiner was born on 16 December 1874 at 'Boonoke', Deniliquin, New South Wales, Australia^G. He was the son of Franc Sadleir Falkiner and Emily Elizabeth Bazley.¹ He married Elizabeth McLaurin on 14 June 1899 at Deniliquin, New South Wales, Australia^G.² He married Una Caroline le Souëf, daughter of Albert Alexander Cochrane le Souëf and Caroline Cotton, on 15 November 1910 at St. John's Church, Toorak, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia^G.^2,3 He died on 23 October 1961 at age 86 at 'Boonoke', Deniliquin, New South Wales, Australia^G, NSW BDM index no. 35548/1961.²

‘At Deniliquin on 14 June 1899 Otway married Elizabeth McLaurin, daughter of a grazier; she died after the birth of their third child in 1909. On 15 November 1910 at St John's Church, Toorak, Melbourne, he married Una Caroline, daughter of A. A. C. Le Souef. In 1914 he succeeded Franc as managing director of F. S. Falkiner & Sons. He and his brother Leigh formed a close, harmonious partnership operating from Boonoke North and Wanganella Estate (bought in 1910 from the executors of Thomas Millear). The firm continued to buy properties, selling off the wheat lands; it was reputed to be the world's largest merino stud, selling rams all over Australia and to South Africa and New Zealand from the early 1900s. The 1920 ram sales inaugurated its golden decade; Otway's stiffest competitors were Haddon Rig and Charles Mills (Uardry) Ltd. In 1927 he bought Zara and next year sold its stud, a large number of sheep going to Fritz Hirschhorn's Smart Syndicate in South Africa. Falkiner severely criticized the 1929 embargo on stud merino exports.

‘Boonoke ram sales were severely hit by the Depression. In 1934 Falkiner made his greatest contribution to stud merino breeding; the Poll Boonoke. To offset wartime transport disruption he established a ram depot at Cleeve, near Longreach, Queensland. A formidable octogenerian, he surrendered the stud to Basil Clapham in 1953 (but remained chairman of directors); presided over the record ewe sale in 1957; and, next year, achieved his lifelong ambition by reuniting all Peppins' original studs with the purchase of Wanganella from the descendants of Albert Austin. By 1957, 70 million of Australia's 150 million sheep were descended from his rams.

‘A playboy and a strange mixture of authoritarianism, gruffness, crudity and kindness, Ottie was keen on breeding Clydesdale horses and racehorses. His greatest success, David, won the Sydney Cup in 1923. In 1944 he donated 1500 acres (607 ha) at Deniliquin to the Commonwealth Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, to establish the Falkiner Memorial Field Centre.

‘Falkiner died in his sleep at Boonoke on 23 October 1961, and, after a service St Paul's Church of England, Deniliquin, was cremated in Melbourne. He was survived by a son and daughter by his first wife and by a daughter of his second wife; their son John was killed in World War II flying for the Royal Australian Air Force. Falkiner's estate was valued for probate at £357,659 in New South Wales and £192,788 in Victoria.‘.⁴

     Elizabeth McLaurin also went by the nick-name of Cissy. From 14 June 1899, her married name became Falkiner.

     Patricia Ann Lang married Otway McLaurin Falkiner, son of Otway Rothwell Falkiner and Elizabeth McLaurin, in 1957 at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia^G. She and Otway McLaurin Falkiner were divorced on 22 July 1977.

     Oliver Minchin was born circa 1990. He is the son of Nicholas Hugh Minchin and Kerry Louise Wakefield.¹
     Suffered serious injuries to his lower back, legs and buttocks on 14 February 2010 when he was run over by a boat while participating in Australian Army training.

Minchin's son injured in boat accident

New South Wales maritime authorities are investigating a boating accident involving the son of Liberal Senator Nick Minchin.

The accident happened on Burrinjuck Dam north-west of Canberra on Sunday during an Australian Defence Force Academy training program.

Oliver Minchin was seriously injured when he fell overboard and was struck by the boat's propeller.

A Defence Department spokesman says the 19-year-old cadet is in a serious but stable condition.

Minchin in Yass as court told of son's injuries

Retiring Liberal heavyweight Nick Minchin and his wife, Kerry, travelled to Yass to support their son Oliver as a court heard yesterday of the injuries the 20-year-old sustained as a military cadet during a Lake Burrinjuck ''joyride''.
Yass Local Court was told the incident occurred on February14 this year on a day of ''adventure training'' for cadets at the lake.
Petty Officer Nikolai Rofe, 32, who the court heard had been driving the boat, had earlier pleaded not guilty to two charges laid under the Marine Safety Act. Rofe was charged with recklessly operating a vessel in navigable water. He also faced an alternative charge of negligently operating the vessel.
The court heard the joyride followed an exercise which involved a series of ''fast water insertions'' in which the cadets would roll off the boat. The cadets had been given demonstrations on how to carry out the exercise.
Speaking outside court yesterday, Senator Minchin the former federal minister who retires from politics next year said the family had come to Yass to support their son as he gave evidence. ''It was very difficult for us as parents and we're the lucky ones in a sense that our son survived the accident and obviously we feel very much for those in the military whose children do not survive either accidents or warfare,'' the South Australian senator told The Canberra Times.^2,3,4,5,6 He was Australian Army.³
