Henry Vansittart was born on 4 August 1849.1 He was the son of Henry Vansittart and Mary Amelia Dobbie.1 He married, secondly, Ellen Diamondapolis.1 He married, firstly, Mary Virginia Jessop, daughter of F. J. Jessop, on 19 October 1878.1 He died in 1930.1
He gained the rank of Lieutenant between 1868 and 1872 in the Royal Marine Artillery.1 He was admitted to Middle Temple in 1872 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.1
