Sir John Richardson was born on 5 November 1787 at Dumfries, Dumfries-shire, ScotlandG.2 He married Mary Fletcher, daughter of Archibald Fletcher and Eliza Dawson.1 He died on 5 June 1865 at age 77.2
He was educated at Edinburgh University, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.2 He gained the rank of Surgeon in 1807 in the |Royal Navy.2 Between 1819 and 1822 Coppermine Expedition, with John Franklin in seach of the North-West Passage.2 He co-authored the book Fauna Boreali-Americana, published 1829.2 He was appointed Knight in 1846.2 Between 1848 and 1849 with John Rae in an unsuccessful search in the Arctic for Franklin.2 He wrote the book An Arctic Searching Expedition, published 1851.2
