He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Heydon between 1747 and 1754.2 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.) in 1749.2 He was created 1st Baron Pollington of Longford, co. Longford [Ireland] on 8 November 1753.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Shoreham between 1761 and 1768.2 He was created 1st Viscount Pollington of Ferns [Ireland] on 11 February 1766.2 He was created 1st Earl Mexborough of Lifford, co. Donegal [Ireland] on 11 February 1766.2

From 20 January 1760, her married name became Savile.1 After her marriage, Sarah Delaval was styled as Countess of Mexborough of Longford on 11 February 1766. From 4 May 1780, her married name became Hardcastle.1
