Brigadier John de la Hay Gordon was born on 30 March 1887.1 He was the son of Alexander Hamilton Miller Haven Gordon and Ada Austen Eyre.2 He married Esme Violet Bevan, daughter of Cecil Stewart Reginald Bevan and Violet Katherine Robbins, in September 1920.1 He died on 22 December 1959 at age 72.1
He was educated at Rossall School, Fleetwood, Lancashire, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He was commissioned in 1906, in the service of the Royal Irish Regiment.1 He gained the rank of in 1908 in the Indian Army.1 He was with the Political Department, Government of India in 1911.1 He fought in the First World War, and was mentioned in despatches twice.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1916.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1918.1 He held the office of Military Governor-General of the Western India States in 1936.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.) in 1937.1 He held the office of Resident of Mysore between 1937 and 1942.1 He gained the rank of Brigadier.1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Star of India (C.S.I.) in 1941.1 He was UNRRA Yugoslav Mission in 1944.1 He was Deputy-Commissioner of the British Red Cross, Southern Europe Commision in 1946.1
