Major James Alexander Orr Ewing was born on 22 February 1857.1 He was the son of Sir Archibald Orr Ewing of Ballikinrain, 1st Bt. and Elizabeth Lindsay Reid.2 He married Lady Margaret Frances Susan Innes-Ker, daughter of James Henry Robert Innes-Ker, 7th Duke of Roxburghe and Lady Anne Emily Spencer-Churchill, on 25 July 1898.1 He died on 28 May 1900 at age 43 at Kheis, South AfricaG, killed in action.2
He graduated from Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was Aide-de-Camp to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland and Commander-in-Chief of Ireland between 1885 and 1890.2 He gained the rank of Major in the 16th Lancers.2 He gained the rank of Major in the Warwicks Yeomanry Cavalry.1 He fought in the Boer War.1

Millicent Lilian Elizabeth Orr Ewing was born on 10 July 1899.1 She was the daughter of Major James Alexander Orr Ewing and Lady Margaret Frances Susan Innes-Ker.2 She married Sir John Francis Roskell Reynolds, 2nd Bt., son of Sir James Philip Reynolds, 1st Bt. and Elizabeth Emilia Leila Roskell, on 22 November 1921.1 She died on 23 November 1931 at age 32.2
