     Robert Douglas Hardtman Holmes à Court was born on 9 April 1913.¹ He was the son of Leonard Wyndham Daly Holmes à Court and Helen Marjorie Hardtman.² He married Sheila Gwendolyne Gibbon, daughter of Hugo Hauffman Gibbon, on 2 May 1941.¹ He died on 26 February 1983 at age 69.¹
     He was educated at Haileybury College, Haileybury, Hertfordshire, England^G.¹ He was awarded the Queen's Police Medal.¹ He was awarded the Colonial Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 1952.¹ He was Assistanat Commissioner of Police, Malawi.¹
