     He graduated from Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England^G, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)¹ He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1876 entitled to practise as a barrister.¹ He was appointed Queen's Counsel (Q.C.) in 1888.¹ He held the office of Judge of the High Court in 1892, Probate Divorce and Admiralty Division.¹ He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 1892.¹ He held the office of Bencher of Inner Temple in 1895.¹ He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England^G, in 1898.¹ He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1905.¹ He was president the High Court, Probate Divorce and Admiralty Division between 1905 and 1909.¹ He was created 1st Baron Gorell, of Brampton, co.
