Lt.-Gen. James Cuninghame was born on 12 December 1731.1 He was the son of Colonel David Cuninghame and Margaret Callander.2 He died on 10 September 1788 at age 56, unmarried.1
He was one of those selected to escort Queen Charlotte to England for her marriage to King George III.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in the Army.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the 45th Regiment of Foot.1 He held the office of Governor of Barbados between 1780 and 1782.1
