John Dewar was born on 22 June 1705.1 He was the son of James Dewar, 1st of Vogrie and Jean Halyburton.2 He married Elizabeth Jean Forrest, daughter of James Forrest of Comiston, on 27 October 1735.1 He died in March 1757 at age 51.1
