Andrew Brereton was the son of Sir William Brereton and Anne Booth.2 He married Catherine FitzSimon, daughter of Sir James FitzSimon and Alison FitzWilliam.1 He died in 1577, (with a natural son Andrew, who m Catherine Lynch, of The Knock, co Meath).1
In 1541 he was ordered to capture Carlow Castle with 50 gunners and 50 archers.1 In 1549 he defeated a force of Scots Islanders who landed to assist O'Neill's Rebellion.1 He held the office of Governor of Ulster in 1549.1 He held the office of Governor of Ulster in 1556.1 He was Baron of Lecale (he sold the 32,000 acre estate to Earl of Kildare ) in 1563.1

Catherine FitzSimon was the daughter of Sir James FitzSimon and Alison FitzWilliam.2,1 She married Andrew Brereton, son of Sir William Brereton and Anne Booth.1 She died on 14 April 1617.1

He was erroneously stated by Sir William Betham, Ulster King of Arms (1828) to have been ancestor of the Breretons of Carrigslaney and New Abbey.1

Mary Brereton was the daughter of Andrew Brereton and Catherine FitzSimon.2 She married, firstly, Thomas Wight.1 She married, secondly, Sir Nicholas Whyte.1 She married, thirdly, Sir Robert Hartpole.1 She died on 28 April 1621.1
Her married name became Wight.1 Her married name became Hartpole. Her married name became Whyte. Her marriage to Thomas Wight was annulled on 1 December 1576.1
