Commander Philip Ernest Uniacke Townshend was born on 15 December 1885.1 He was the son of Charles Uniacke Townshend and Anna Maria Roberts.2 He married Hilda Cumming Backhouse, daughter of Edward Cumming Backhouse, on 30 April 1930.1 He died on 30 September 1959 at age 73, without issue.1
He gained the rank of Commander in the Royal Navy.1
