Walter Cunliffe, 1st Baron Cunliffe was born on 4 December 1855.1 He was the son of Roger Cuncliffe and Ann Edge.2 He married, firstly, Mary Agnes Henderson, daughter of Robert Henderson, on 10 June 1890.1 He married, secondly, Edith Cunningham Boothby, daughter of Colonel Robert Tod Boothby and Madeline Condie, on 8 July 1896.1
He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1882 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was a director of the Bank of England in 1895.1 He held the office of Lieutenant of the City of London.1 He held the office of Deputy-Governor of the Bank of England between 1911 and 1913.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of London in 1913.1 He held the office of Governor of the Bank of England between 1913 and 1918.1 He was created 1st Baron Cunliffe, of Headley, Surrey [U.K.] on 14 December 1914.1 He was awarded the Grand Cross, Order of St. Anne of Russia 1st Class.1 He was awarded the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun of Japan.1 He was awarded the Grand Cross, Order of the Redeemer of Greece.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the British Empire (G.B.E.) in 1917.1 He was awarded the Grand Cross, Order of the Crown of Italy.1 He was awarded the Commander, Order of Leopold of Belgium.1 He was awarded the Commander Legion of Honour.1 He graduated from Columbia University, Manhattan, New York City, New York, U.S.A.G, with a Doctor of Law (LL.D.)1

Mary Agnes Henderson was the daughter of Robert Henderson.2 She married Walter Cunliffe, 1st Baron Cunliffe, son of Roger Cuncliffe and Ann Edge, on 10 June 1890.1 She died on 29 November 1893, without issue.1

Geoffrey Cunliffe was born on 26 August 1903.1 He was the son of Walter Cunliffe, 1st Baron Cunliffe and Edith Cunningham Boothby.2 He married, firstly, Patrick Sidney Frend, daughter of Robert Benjamin Frend, on 16 August 1922.1 He married, secondly, Gavrelle Thomas, daughter of William Arthur Thomas, in September 1941.1 He married, thirdly, Barbara Waring Gibb, daughter of Dr. J. A. Gibb, in 1947.1 He and Gavrelle Thomas were divorced in 1947.1 He died in 1982.1

Patrick Sidney Frend was the daughter of Robert Benjamin Frend.2 She married Hon. Geoffrey Cunliffe, son of Walter Cunliffe, 1st Baron Cunliffe and Edith Cunningham Boothby, on 16 August 1922.1 She died in October 1940.1

Robert George Cunliffe was born on 20 June 1923.1 He was the son of Hon. Geoffrey Cunliffe and Patrick Sidney Frend.2 He died on 14 February 1945 at age 21, killed in action during air operations over Germany.1
