     Lt.-Cdr. George Gosselin Marten was born on 28 December 1918. He was the son of Vice-Admiral Sir Francis Arthur Marten.² He married Hon. Mary Anna Sibell Elizabeth Sturt, daughter of Napier George Henry Sturt, 3rd Baron Alington of Crichel and Lady Mary Sibell Ashley-Cooper, on 25 November 1949.^1,3 He died on 16 August 1998 at age 79.
     He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.)³ He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (D.S.C.)³ He lived at Crichel, Wimbrne, Dorset, England.⁴ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Commander in the Royal Navy.³
