     Ella Mary Gardner Garnett was born in 1910 at Chester, Cheshire, England^G.¹ She was the daughter of James Gardner Garnett and Ella Mary Jones.¹ She married Robert Edwin McAlpine, Baron McAlpine of Moffat, son of William Hepburn McAlpine and Margaret Donnison Bishop, on 8 December 1930.² She died in February 1987 at Westminster, London, England^G.¹
     From 8 December 1930, her married name became McAlpine.¹ After her marriage, Ella Mary Gardner Garnett was styled as Baroness McAlpine of Moffat on 21 February 1980.
