     Admiral Edward Ratcliffe Garth Russell Evans, 1st Baron Mountevans was born on 28 October 1881.1 He was the son of Frank Evans.3 He married, firstly, Hilda Beatrice Russell, daughter of Thomas Gregory Russell, on 13 April 1904.1 He married, secondly, Elsa Andvord, daughter of Richard Andvord, on 22 January 1916.1 He died on 20 August 1958 at age 76.1
     He was educated at Merchant Taylors' School, London, EnglandG.1 He was educated at H.M.S. Worcester, EnglandG.1 He was 2nd Officer, Relief Ship Morning, National Antarctic Expedition between 1902 and 1904.1 He was 2nd in charge of the British Expedition between 1910 and 1913.1 He was awarded the Livingstone Gold medal of Royal Scottish Geographical Society in 1913.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)1 He was awarded the Lloyd's Gold Medal in 1922.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.)1 He was awarded the BOT Silver Medal Gallantry at Sea in 1923.1 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in 1928.1 He held the office of Naval Aide-de-Camp to HM King George V in 1928.1 He was commander of the Royal Australian Navy between 1929 and 1931.1 He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral in 1932.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the Africa Station between 1933 and 1935.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the The Nore between 1935 and 1939.1 He gained the rank of Admiral in 1936.1 He was created 1st Baron Mountevans, of Chelsea, co. London [U.K.] on 12 November 1945.1
