     Sir Lawrence Charles Edward Downing Dowdall was the son of Reverand Launcelot Dowdall and Maria Downing.¹ He married Elizabeth Frances Edie, daughter of Alexander Clotworthy Downing Leckie Edie and Diana Maria Battley, on 1 August 1914 in a childless marriage.¹ He died on 23 February 1936.¹
     He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)¹ He was the Head of the Administrative Department, Chief Secretary of Ireland's Office.¹
