Richard Ball was born on 8 April 1898.1 He was the son of Richard Oliver Ball and Mary Tench.2 He married Mavis Norah Worrall, daughter of Captain Francis Clemson Worrall, on 10 June 1948.1
He was educated at Clongowes Wood College, S.J., Clane, County Kildare, IrelandG.1 He was educated at University College Dublin, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG.1 He held the office of Member, Agricultural Committee, Royal Dublin Society between 1940 and 1946.1 He held the office of Member, Council Bloodstock Breeders' Association from 1944.1 He held the office of Member of the Executive Committee, Council Bloodstock Breeders' Association from 1950.1 He lived at Reynoldstown, Naul, County Dublin, IrelandG.1 He held the office of Director, Irish National Stud between 1956 and 1959.1 He was the Leading Breeder of Bloodstock in Great Britain and Ireland in 1958.1 He held the office of President, Irish Bloodstock Breeders' Association between 1959 and 1962.1 He lived at Moorside, Clonalvy, County Meath, IrelandG.1
