Sir Basil Purvis-Russell Montgomery, 8th Bt. was born on 25 September 1884.1 He was the son of Sir Henry James Purvis-Russell-Hamilton-Montgomery, 7th Bt. and Mary Maude Purvis-Russell.1 He married Amelia Alice Richards in 1915.1 He died on 28 January 1964 at age 79.
He was educated at Uppingham School, Uppingham, Rutland, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Trinity Hall, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the First World War in 1914, with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force.1 He succeeded as the 8th Baronet Montgomery, of Stanhope, co. Peebles [U.K., 1801] on 6 August 1947.1
