     John Sinclair, 1st Baron Pentland was born on 7 July 1860.2 He was the son of Captain George Sinclair and Agnes Learmonth.1,3 He married Lady Marjorie Adeline Gordon, daughter of John Campbell Hamilton-Gordon, 1st Marquess of Aberdeen and Temair and Dame Isabel Maria Marjoribanks, on 12 July 1904.2 He died on 11 January 1925 at age 64.2
     He was educated at Edinburgh Academy, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.2 He was educated at Wellington College, Crowthorne, Berkshire, England.2 He gained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in 1879 in the 5th Royal Irish Lancers.2 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.2 He fought in the Sudan Expedition in 1885.1 He was Aide-de-Camp to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland in 1886.1 He retired from the military in 1887, with the rank of Captain, late of the 5th Lancers.1 He held the office of Member of the London City Council between 1889 and 1892.2 He was Assistant Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for War between 1892 and 1895.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dunbartonshire between 1892 and 1895.1 He was Secretary to the Governor-General of Canada between 1896 and 1897.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Forfar between 1897 and 1909.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1905.1 He held the office of Sectrary for Scotland between 1905 and 1912.1 He was created 1st Baron Pentland, of Lyth, co.      Mary Florence Clixby was the daughter of Joseph Clixby.1 She married, firstly, Edward Sheppard Cockayne in 1881.1 She married, secondly, George Gordon, 2nd Marquess of Aberdeen and Temair, son of John Campbell Hamilton-Gordon, 1st Marquess of Aberdeen and Temair and Dame Isabel Maria Marjoribanks, on 6 August 1906 at Scottish Presbyterian Church of St. Columba, Pont Street, Chelsea, London, EnglandG.1 She died on 5 January 1937, without issue.2,3 She was buried on 7 January 1937.2
     From before 1906, her married name became Cockayne.1 Her married name became Gordon. After her marriage, Mary Florence Clixby was styled as Marchioness of Aberdeen and Temair on 7 March 1934.
