     He was educated at College de Menars, France^G.¹ He was commissioned in 1838, in the service of the 15th Regiment Bengal Native Infantry.¹ He fought in the Punjab Campaign between 1848 and 1849.¹ He fought in the Burma Campaign in 1852.¹ He held the office of Commissioner of Arakan in 1852.¹ He held the office of Commissioner of Tenasserim Provinces in 1858.¹ He was Agent for the Governor-General of India on the North-East Frontier in 1860.¹ He held the office of Commissioner to Assam in 1860.¹ He fought in the Bhutan Expedition in 1865.¹ He retired from the military, with the rank of General.¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of the Star of India (C.S.I.) in 1874.¹
