[Ireland] in 1903 on the occasion of the Royal Visit.¹ He was Member of the Arterial Drainage Commission in 1905.¹ He was honorary Secretary of the Ulster Unionist Council.¹ He was member of the Ulster Day Committee.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)¹ He held the office of High Sheriff in 1912.¹ He lived at Ardara, Comber, County Down, Ireland^G.¹

     Margaret Montgomery Carlisle was the daughter of John Carlisle.¹ She married William James Pirrie, 1st and last Viscount Pirrie, son of James Alexander Pirrie and Eliza Montgomery, on 17 April 1879.¹ She died on 19 June 1935.¹
     From 17 April 1879, her married name became Pirrie.¹ After her marriage, Margaret Montgomery Carlisle was styled as Baroness Pirrie on 17 July 1906. After her marriage, Margaret Montgomery Carlisle was styled as Viscountess Pirrie on 9 July 1921. She was president of Harland and Wolff in 1924.¹
