     Gordon Hewart, 1st Viscount Hewart was born on 7 January 1870.1 He was the son of Giles Hewart.1 He married, firstly, Sara Wood Riley, daughter of J. H. Riley, on 5 October 1892.2 He married, secondly, Jean Stewart, daughter of James Reid Stewart, on 29 December 1934.2 He died on 5 May 1943 at age 73.1
     He graduated from University College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1891 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He graduated from University College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1893 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was a journalist.1 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1902 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.1 He was appointed King's Counsel (K.C.) in 1912.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Leicester between 1913 and 1918.1 He held the office of Solicitor-General between 1916 and 1919.1 He was appointed Knight Bachelor on 29 December 1916.2 He held the office of Bencher of the Inner Temple in 1917.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1918.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Leicester, East Division between 1918 and 1922.1 He held the office of Attorney-General between 1919 and 1922.1 He held the office of Member of Cabinet between 1921 and 1922.1 He held the office of President of the War Compensation Court between 1922 and 1929.1 He held the office of Lord Chief Justice between 1922 and 1940.1 He was created 1st Baron Hewart, of Bury, co.
