     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for East Somerset between 1878 and 1885.¹ He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Miles, of Leigh Court, co. Somerset [U.K., 1859] on 17 June 1878.¹

     Frances Elizabeth Roche was the daughter of Sir David Roche, 1st Bt. and Frances Vandeleur.^1,2 She married, firstly, Sir Philip John William Miles, 2nd Bt., son of Sir William Miles, 1st Bt. and Catherine Gordon, on 17 October 1848.¹ She married, secondly, Dr. John Nicholls in 1904.¹ She died on 18 December 1908.¹
     From 17 October 1848, her married name became Miles.¹ From 1904, her married name became Nicholls.¹

     Sir David Roche, 1st Bt. was born on 19 January 1791.² He was the son of David Roche and Frances Maunsell.² He married, firstly, Frances Vandeleur, daughter of Lt.-Col. John Ormsby Vandeleur and Rosetta Beattie, on 1 February 1825.² He married, secondly, Cecilia Caroline Grady, daughter of Henry Deane O'Grady, on 10 June 1844.² He died on 8 April 1865 at age 74.²
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Limerick between 1832 and 1844.² He was created 1st Baronet Roche, of Carass, co. Limerick [U.K.] on 8 August 1838.²

     Dr. John Nicholls married Frances Elizabeth Roche, daughter of Sir David Roche, 1st Bt. and Frances Vandeleur, in 1904.¹
