William Cope, 1st and last Baron Cope was born on 18 August 1870.1 He was the son of Matthew Cope and Margaret Harrison.1 He married Helen Shuldham, daughter of Major Alexander Shuldham, on 5 September 1900.1 He died on 15 July 1946 at age 75.1
He graduated from Clare College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1894 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Glamorgan, Llandaff and Barry Division between 1918 and 1929.1 He held the office of Junior Lord of the Treasury between 1923 and 1924.1 He held the office of Junior Lord of the Treasury between 1924 and 1928.1 He was Civil Commissioner for London and the Home Counties during the General Strike in 1926.1 He held the office of Comptroller of the Household between 1928 and 1929.1 He was created 1st Baronet Cope [U.K.] on 28 June 1928.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Glamorgan in 1932.1 He was appointed King's Counsel (K.C.) in 1933.1 He was created 1st Baron Cope, of St. Mellons, co. Monmouth [U.K.] on 14 July 1945.1

Matthew Cope was born on 2 February 1843.1 He was the son of William Cope.1 He married Margaret Harrison, daughter of John Harrison, on 19 May 1869.1 He died on 8 November 1933 at age 90.1
